Starting this year and hence forth, let’s commit to buying Black for our holiday shopping. There is power in our purchase, so we have a responsibility and opportunity to be intentional in wielding that power. Circulating our dollar with Black owned businesses during the holiday spending fury supports all of us. It supports small businesses which fuel the Black economy, builds familial wealth, and supports thriving communities.
It’s much deeper than gift giving and deep discounts. It’s about supporting our own because it is who we are. Ujamaa, cooperative economics, is a cultural principle Kwanzaa teaches us. You don’t have to celebrate the holiday to acknowledge our cultural roots in cooperative economics. So let’s build together this holiday season by supporting Black owned businesses with our intentional spending.
