The Apollo Theater To Honor Teyana Taylor With Inaugural Innovator Award

Since first opening its doors in 1914, the Apollo has been a beacon of Black excellence in the arts, having been the stage for groundbreaking performances by legends such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown. It also played a key role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues and soul. In recognition of its impact, it received state and city Landmark status in 1983. Located at 253 West 125th Street in Harlem, it remains the largest performing arts institution committed to Black culture and creativity.

In 2024, the Apollo achieved a significant milestone as the first institution to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor for its role in cultivating emerging artists, promoting legends and serving as a cornerstone for artistic innovation.

On June 4, 2025, the Apollo Theater will host its Spring Benefit, in which it will bring together community leaders, supporters and businesses to raise funds for educational initiatives and programs. Last year, the benefit raised $3 million. This year, with over 600 guests expected to attend, it was announced that Teyana Taylor will be honored for her contributions to music, film and culture with the inaugural Innovator Award.
