Founded in 2021, Black Girl Vitamins was born with a clear mission: to empower Black women to understand their specific health needs and provide the best, tailored solutions to meet them. With data showing that 82% of Black women are Vitamin D deficient and three times more likely to have anemia, this Chicago-based wellness brand was built not just to nourish but to uplift.
The company was co-founded by Maxine Manager, who discovered that she was Vitamin D deficient and found herself having to navigate a healthcare system that often overlooks the needs of Black women. To tackle this disparity, this Black-owned and -operated brand is driven by a team of Black doctors and experts who are committed to putting Black women first.
The product line offers a range of FDA-approved, science-backed supplements, including Once A Day, Vitamin D, Iron, Prenatal, and PCOS Relief. Carefully formulated to address common deficiencies among Black women, the company emphasizes quality, ensuring that all products are gluten-free, soy-free, and non-GMO. As Head of Strategy, Jennifer Juma, put it, they are a “one-stop-shop for all Black women’s vitamin needs.” And while these vitamins are specifically for Black women, their products are inclusive and effective for anyone seeking reliable, targeted nutrition.
Products are available for purchase directly through the website, with worldwide shipping offered via USPS and UPS, and a subscription option for convenience.
Beyond supplements, Black Girl Vitamins is committed to education and empowerment. In October 2024, they announced a $100,000 scholarship fund to support Black women pursuing medical degrees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). During Black History Month this year (2025), they launched the Sisterhood in Self-Care Campaign, hosting fitness classes led by Black women instructors across multiple cities, educational webinars that discussed health issues such as fibroids and PCOS, and offered an exclusive Sis Self-Care Box with any purchase above $60.
They have also built strong partnerships with several institutions and sports teams. In 2024, they became the official vitamin sponsor of the Howard Women’s Basketball Team as well as Chicago State University Athletics, with a focus on the women’s basketball team. This year, they became a supporting partner of the Atlanta Dream Basketball Team’s 2025 season. They also became the official sponsor of Winston-Salem State University’s Cheer Team, prioritizing nutrition, wellness and hair care by providing the team with Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins, along with other products, such as the Energy Bundle and Collagen Powder. Most recently, they announced that their official partnership with the 40+ Double Dutch Club.
Their website also serves as an educational resource, featuring an informative blog that covers topics relevant to Black women’s health. From navigating vitamin deficiencies to tips for getting the most nutrients from your diet, it is yet another way that the brand is fulfilling its promise to educate and empower.
From accessible, high-quality health products to strategic partnerships and community investments, every initiative is centered on affirming, uplifting, and empowering Black women.
