Just before Bron Echols’ 12th birthday, his mother, Patrice Tartt Chappelle, made the decision to invest $1,200 in his skincare venture. The decision was driven by the need for a more tailored skincare routine for her son, who had struggled with dryness and a lack of skincare options specifically formulated for melanin-rich skin. He quickly embraced the opportunity and by age 14, he was already the Co-CEO and Co-Founder of his own company, MelanBrand Skin, LLC.

Established in 2023, this mother-son-owned company was born out of a mission to equip parents with natural, safe skincare solutions for their children, starting a daily routine that promotes well-being. Going a step further, they are committed to instilling confidence in Black and brown children.
In 2024, Bron made history as the first author to publish a book about skincare for Black children. Entitled Wash Your “T” and Close Your Eyes, he co-authored a book with his mother. Designed for young readers, the book teaches Black and brown children the importance of healthy routines and proper skincare, both day and night. It shares practical tips and tricks that can be practiced in the early years for healthy and hydrated, glowing skin year-round. A few weeks after publishing the book, Bron and his mother received a $2,000 grant to use to support their growing business.
What sets this brand apart is its focus on culturally responsive care. It recognizes that melanin-rich skin has unique needs that are often overlooked in mainstream beauty conversations and product development. The MelanKids Skin Collection, made for kids between ages 7 and 21, and suitable for parents as well, helps establish foundational skincare habits early. Meanwhile, the MelanMoisture Collection is thoughtfully crafted with conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis in mind.
Every ingredient used in these products is responsibly sourced, gluten-free, and selected with sensitivity in mind. While all products can be used by anyone, they were specifically developed to address the primary concerns and needs of melanated skin.
Together, Bron and his mother are reshaping the narrative around skincare for Black and brown families, and also proving that entrepreneurship has no age limit. Their products are available for purchase on the Official Black Wall Street Marketplace.
