Music icons Ashanti and Nelly have announced their engagement and the impending arrival of their first child together. But amidst the excitement of expanding their family, the power couple has also unveiled a new venture they're embarking on: co-ownership of Proov, an at-home fertility and hormone testing company.
Ashanti and Nelly shared the news in an exclusive interview with ESSENCE, where they also revealed their co-ownership of Proov. The announcement, creatively presented as an ad for the company, features Ashanti backstage at one of her shows, taking a test from Proov, and confirming her pregnancy with a playful smile.
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” said Ashanti. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
Proov, founded by Dr. Amy Beckley, offers affordable at-home, science-backed fertility and hormone marker tests. The company's flagship product, the Proov PdG test, evaluates Pregnanediol Glucuronide levels to offer insights into successful ovulation. Dr. Beckley, inspired by her personal experience with fertility challenges, developed this test to help women trying to conceive identify fertility issues, including treatable dysfunctions related to ovulation.
With Proov, Ashanti and Nelly aim to provide women with accessible and accurate fertility testing options. The company's FDA-approved tests have been extensively clinically tested, and it boasts a team of medical advisors and partnerships with Board-Certified Reproductive Endocrinologists.
For Ashanti, the partnership with Proov not only signifies her excitement for motherhood but also reflects her entrepreneurial spirit. Alongside her music career, she has ventured into ownership, recently becoming the first Black female artist to co-found a Web3 company, EQ Exchange.
At 43 years old, Ashanti is anticipating the arrival of her first child, while Nelly, who already has four children, will be welcoming his fifth. The couple's relationship, which began in 2003 and lasted nearly ten years, was rekindled in 2023 after a heartfelt embrace at the Fat Joe and Ja Rule Verzuz event in 2021.
