Angel Reese, the former LSU women’s basketball standout and current WNBA rookie with the Chicago Sky, is making waves both on and off the court. Reese, who was selected seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has now ventured into the world of professional soccer by becoming a co-owner of DC Power FC, a new women’s professional soccer team in the United Soccer League’s Super League.

Reese's decision to invest in DC Power FC stems from her passion for promoting women's sports and empowering female athletes. "I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board," Reese said. "We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community."

Her commitment to this cause is further underscored by her involvement with the ownership group, which includes Major League Soccer's D.C. United and key community leaders in Washington, D.C. Jason Levien, D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman, praised Reese's groundbreaking decision. "As a Maryland native, Angel is passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV and globally, while inspiring the next generation of female athletes."

Reese, a native of Randallstown, Maryland, has deep connections to the Washington, D.C. area. She started her collegiate career with the Maryland Terrapins, earning All-Big Ten First Team and All-American Third Team honors before transferring to LSU. At LSU, she led the Lady Tigers to a NCAA Division I National Championship in 2023 and was named the SEC Player of the Year.

Now, as she embarks on her professional basketball career with the Chicago Sky, Reese is already making a significant impact. In her first two WNBA games, she has shown promise, averaging 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

DC Power FC will compete in the USL’s Super League, with its inaugural season set to begin in August. The team is poised to make a significant impact in the women’s soccer landscape, and Reese's involvement is expected to bring considerable attention and support to the club.

Reese's transition from basketball star to sports team co-owner is a testament to her multifaceted talent and dedication to advancing women's sports. As she continues to excel on the court, her influence is also set to grow in the boardroom. Her involvement with DC Power FC not only highlights her business acumen but also her unwavering commitment to fostering positive change in the sports world.

Reese’s role as a founding investor in DC Power FC is groundbreaking. It signifies a powerful step toward greater gender equality in sports and offers a new platform for female athletes to shine. "Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking," said Levien. "We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner."

As Angel Reese continues to build her legacy, both as a basketball player and a businesswoman, her influence will undoubtedly inspire future generations of female athletes. Her dual focus on excelling in the WNBA and promoting women's soccer demonstrates a visionary approach to sports leadership. With DC Power FC set to kick off its season, Reese's impact will be felt not just in Chicago, but across the broader sports community, heralding a new era for women in sports.
