Wanderstay Boutique Hotel - Houston, Texas

Wanderstay Boutique Hotel opened its doors in the summer of 2023, offering a destination where guests can experience a unique and exciting stay in Houston. Each of their 10 rooms are uniquely themed, providing an immersive stay that inspires relaxation and exploration. Located in the heart of East End, they provide comfort, style, and convenience for travelers looking to relax, and connect.

Blue Apple Beach - Cartagena, Colombia

Founded in 2016, Blue Apple Beach is a trendy boutique hotel located just off the coast of Cartagena on Tierra Bomba Island. Described as a “laid-back place”, this Mediterranean inspired island getaway also focuses on sustainability and contributes 2% of its revenues to environmental and social causes.

iKhaya Lodge - Cape Town, South Africa

iKhaya Lodge is a boutique hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, that celebrates African Heritage in both color and décor. Owned by siblings Christine, Stephen and Patrick, Keystone Inn is the first Black-owned bed and breakfast in Gettysburg, PA. Located in close proximity to the Underground Railroad, this renovated Victorian-style B&B features rooms designed with themes from the Civil War and named after historic figures, such as the Basil Biggs Room.

Hubbard Mansion - New Orleans, Louisiana

Centrally located with direct access to the French Quarter and the Audubon Park, the Hubbard Mansion is owned by Mr. Don Hubbard, who originally built the house for his wife. His family became the second Black family to own property on St. Charles Avenue. The beautiful bed and breakfast feels like a home away from home, and features photos of Mr. Don’s family on the walls.

Villa Monticello - Accra, Ghana

With 16 individually custom-decorated suites that reflect traditional Ghanaian culture, Villa Monticello is designed to feel more like a home and less like a hotel. Founded by women and largely women-run, this boutique hotel features suites named after African icons, such as Nelson Mandela and Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Kwame Nkrumah.

Hotel Sages - Bali, Indonesia

Owned by Angelica Espiritu and her partner, Savina, Hotel Sages is a modern hotel nestled in the serene rice fields of Canggu, Bali.  Inspired by the architecture of Santorini and the earthy charm of Tulum, this hotel is a sanctuary where guests can unwind and enjoy tailored experiences. With yoga sessions and romantic flower baths available, this brand focuses on luxury, wellness and creating memorable experiences for guests.

The Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel - Dakar, Senegal

Owned by Souadou Niang, who was a former housekeeper at the Ritz-Carlton in the United States, the Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel is a 5-star hotel in Dakar, Senegal. Featuring 20 rooms, each of which are tastefully decorated, the hotel also offers exquisite dining options.

Hamilton Howell House - Atlanta, Georgia

Just around the corner from the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Park is the Hamilton Howell House. With a spacious patio and beautiful columns surrounding the large front porches, this feels like home. Built in 1893 by Alexander Hamilton, Jr., the leading African American contractor and builder in Atlanta, as his family home, it was acquired by the Howell/Youngblood family in 1984. The Howell/Youngblood family restored the property, which now features a solarium with a built-in spa, a backyard waterfall and rooms named after American cultural icons such as Aretha Franklin, W.E.B. DuBois and Maya Angelou.

Arijiju House - Laikipia Plateau, Kenya

Carved into the hillside and surrounded by wildlife and nature, Arijiju House is a private oasis centered around wellness and sustainability. It is located on a gaming site and was built using local timber and stone, while the furniture was handcrafted by local artisans. Inspired partly by the design of the monasteries in Ethiopia, each bedroom gets an “elaborate, equatorial lightshow at sunrise. It features a library, spa, and yoga studio, as well as tennis and squash courts.

Hostelle - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Hostelle is the first Black-owned, women-only hostel in Amsterdam. Founded by Bianca Brasdorp in 2012, it offers a safe and fun space to women travelers. It is budget-friendly, conveniently located and features a 24-hour reception from which guests can purchase metro tickets, bike rentals and tickets to popular attractions. It offers 4-, 8-, 10- and 12- bed dorms.

Hostelle is a group of female-only hostels with additional locations in Barcelona and London.  

Stonefield Villa Resort - St. Lucia

Black-owned and family-operated, the Stonefield Villa Resort is spread across more than 26 acres of land. Originally owned by one of the biggest colonial families in the 1700s, it was purchased in 1973 by Canadian builder Wayne Brown and his Saint Lucian wife Anista Brown. In the late 1990s it was turned into a private resort. Following the passing of Mr. Brown, the resort is now wholly operated by Mrs. Brown and the couple’s five children. The resort offers more than a dozen villas, each with a private pool, features an award-winning organic farm-to-table restaurant and offers beautiful views of the Pitons.

Kruger Shalati – Shukuza, South Africa

Located in Kruger National Park and stationed permanently above the Sabie river, the Kruger Shalati Hotel is housed within a refurbished, suspended train car. It marks the very spot where the first visits to the park were allowed in the 1920s, when the train would park overnight. With 31 rooms, consisting of 24 train carriage suites and 7 bridge house suites, this accommodation features three swimming pools and a view of the constantly flowing river where animals and birds quench their thirst. The train is named after Shalati, an African Warrior Queen.

Rock City Hotel - Kwahu, Ghana

On track to becoming one of the largest resorts in Africa, the Rock City Hotel is not only Black-owned, but was also designed by a team of Black woman designers and architects. Located in Kwahu, a city in Nkwatia, Ghana, the hotel currently features more than 600 rooms and offers adventures such as paragliding and canopy walkways.

Wellspring Manor and Spa - Upper Marlboro, Maryland

Owned by Lisa and her husband Kevin Alexander, Wellspring Manor and Spa is a luxury bed and breakfast described as an “oasis of peace, quiet and renewal.” The lush, 7-acre private property has five en suites, including one that is technology-free. Guests can expect a personally customized, freshly prepared breakfast every morning.  In addition to having a private wine cellar, a unique feature of this property is the extensive art collection that features over 40 artists of color from around the world.
